Duty holders are required to have arrangements in place to provide for an effective response in the event of an offshore emergency.
OEUK therefore recommends that ERT members tasked with physically strenuous activities undergo regular:
• Medical Assessment
• Fitness Grading
It is not necessary for the examinee to undertake an exercise test for the purposes of the ERT assessment, however we could carry this out if the examinee is unable to provide proof of evidence of ability to undertake sustained vigorous activity.
As a simple guide, those examinees able to provide evidence of completion of a ‘fun run’ of 5k or more at a suitable pace may be judged to have provided sufficient evidence; evidence of membership of and regular training at a running club, cycling club, football team or similar activity are also likely to be sufficient.
The ERT medical will last approx 45 minutes.
• Photo ID (passport or driving license)
• Your glasses / contact lenses if worn
• Avoid exposure to loud noise for 16 hrs prior to your appointment
• Any medication, doctor/ hospital letters and relevant investigations/results

• Comfortable clothing - you should wear suitable sports clothing and training shoes or similar in case you need a Chester step test
Medical assessments should follow the normal OEUK medical periodicity, whilst fitness grading should be undertaken at least annually.
Yes, as long as the doctor can deem you fit, we will provide you with the ERT certificate at the end of your appointment to take away with you.
